By contrast, the Chevies and Pontiacs I had from the same era as a kid would have splits in the vinyl after 10 years. After 50 + years I only have one small flaw (not even a tear, really) and a seam separation. The vinyl they used in T-Birds back then was very durable for some reason. Vinyl was extremely popular on these cars, and for good reason. That may be the the first cloth interior I've actually seen, though. I'd looked at this info several times before, but blew it off I guess. I just looked in my '65 shop manual vehicle data plate section, and sure enough, cloth interiors were available. This page from the 64 C & U book shows the four color choices Silver Smoke gray, Blue, Beige and Black.įrom what I can see, the fabric in the car in question, matches. 1961 and up Ford DID offer a cloth interior option on the Thunderbird.Ĭertainly all vinyl was always the most popular choice and leather could be had at an additional cost, but cloth seating surfaces was an option.
